Smartscan SLC4 Safety Inductive Loop Controller

Smartscan inductive loop controllers are used in a number of machine safety applications wherever the presence of fork lift trucks or other industrial vehicles needs to be detected, for example, when entering safe-guarded access-ways or, at pallet conveyors for loading and unloading. The output signals from the loop controllers are normally used for muting Smartscan safety light-curtains.

Application Overview:

As a loaded pallet moves along the conveyor away from the dangerous machinery it enters the load / unload area at which point the conveyor stops. This load/unload area is safe guarded by a Smartscan light curtain which is positioned to detect personnel accessing the potentially dangerous machinery.

As the forklift truck enters the area it passes over the underfloor mounted dual inductive loops which detect it’s presence and provides output signals via the inductive loop controller to mute the light curtain. After inserting or unloading the loaded pallet, from the conveyor the forklift truck moves out of the area and therefore off the inductive loops. At this point the muting signals are removed and the light curtain becomes fully active again, thus providing fully automatic control of the machine and safety system.

Smartscan loop controllers directly interface with all Series 8000 and 8000+ safety light-curtains.

The 1000 Plus includes innovative design features providing customers with an easy to use, low cost solution supported by a full two year warranty. The range also includes 2, 3 and 4 beam options for guarding around the perimeter of a machine. Enhanced visual diagnostics aid light curtain monitoring and set-up. IP65 for harsh environments and finished in a bright ‘yellow’ polyester powder coating.

Its mould breaking combination of IEC 61496-2 TYPE 2 and EN 954-1 Category 3 safety integrity makes them suitable for the majority of safe guarding applications helping customers get the right balance for their safety applications.

Connecting the 1000 Plus to a machine control system couldn't be easier. A 24V DC supply is required to the transmitter and receiver units. Connect the two electronic output switches to the machine stop circuit and the installation is complete. Transmitter and Receiver heads come complete with 5m connection cables.

Mechanical installation is fully catered for with a combination of four specially extruded slots running the full length of the extrusion that incorporate an M6 thread and a standard angle bracket mounting kit option.

In addition Smartscan offers a range of Multifunction Safety Units providing relay output switching and a number of control options like muting, E-stop inputs and control of two light curtains.
